Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to Israeli security officials in response to the recent detainment of Peter Beinart at Ben-Gurion airport, according to the office of the Prime Minister.
Peter Beinart is an American journalist and liberal political commentator who has written for Time, The New York Times, The New York Review of Books and is a senior columnist at Haaretz.
Upon hearing of Beinart's detainment, Netanyahu spoke with Israeli security forces to inquire how a writer and journalist was detained at the airport.
According to an official statement from the office of the Prime Minister, Netanyahu was told it was an 'administrative mistake.'
The Prime Minister's office issued a statement claiming that "Israel is  an open society which welcomes all—critics and supporters alike. Israel is the only country in the Middle East where people voice their opinions freely and robustly."
