19-year-old Baruch Kabrata killed in gun negligence incident on IDF base

Military officials initially suspected he was killed by a fellow soldier in a tragic incident of gun negligence.

The IDF soldier killed on his military base due to suspected gun negligence by his friend has been identified as Cpl. Baruch Kabrata, the IDF confirmed in a statement on Tuesday afternoon.

The 19-year-old soldier from Petah Tikvah served as a combat soldier in the Erez Battalion in the Military Police.

Following his death, he was promoted from the rank of Private to Corporal, and his funeral will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the military section of the Segulah Cemetary in Petah Tikvah. 

The IDF is continuing to investigate the incident and upon completion, the findings will be forwarded to the IDF attorney's office for examination.

Kabrata was killed on Monday night after being injured by gunshots in the Anatot military base, located in the West Bank, the IDF announced on Tuesday morning.

IDF officials initially suspected the soldier was killed by a fellow soldier in a tragic incident of gun negligence, according to N12.

Military Police opened an investigation into the incident and will submit its findings to the Military Advocate General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi.

The soldier was part of the Military Police's Erez Battalion. Sgt. Noa Lazar, who was killed in October of last year in a terrorist attack at the Shuafat checkpoint in east Jerusalem, also fought in the Erez Battalion.

IDF soldiers operated in the Ramallah and Kfar Akab area on Monday night, mapping out the homes of the terrorist who carried out the double bombing attack in Jerusalem on November 23, 2022. 

The mapping operation was carried out in preparation for the likely demolition of the home, the possibility of which is currently under examination.

During the operation, violent disturbances broke out in the village of Kfar Akav, during which Palestinians threw rocks and Molotov cocktails in the direction of the IDF soldiers.

No injuries were reported to Israeli forces.
