The Fire Department's quick response

The fire was "approximately six feet by 40 feet long," said the New York City Fire Department (FDNY). FDNY Battalion Chief Joseph Castellano said: "Units then proceeded to stretch hand lines and extinguished the fire in a short amount of time. There was slight damage to the adjacent kiosk, and there was some heat impingement on the roof of the ice-skating rink behind the kiosk."

The Fire Department issued a follow-up statement, which concluded that the fire "was accidental, caused by cooking oil coming in contact with combustibles."

A Bryant Park spokesman told NBC New York that they're "grateful for the FDNY’s quick response to the incident that occurred earlier today."
