Fiji to open embassy in Jerusalem, Israel's FM Gideon Sa'ar announces

Sa'ar reportedly pledged to provide patrol boats after a request to assist in Fiji's efforts to control the illegal drug trade in the country.

Fiji has decided to open an embassy in Jerusalem, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar announced on X/Twitter on Tuesday.

"I congratulate Fiji on its decision to open an embassy in Israel, in Jerusalem," he wrote.

"I thank Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, a friend of Israel, for passing the decision today in the the government. We will continue to work to open and move additional embassies to Jerusalem, our capital," he added.

Fiji and Israel collaborate

Rabuka and Sa'ar discussed opening an embassy in Jerusalem at the Munich Security Conference on Friday, a press release from the Fiji Foreign Ministry stated. 

The two diplomats discussed collaborations in the agriculture sector, security and peacekeeping, and climate action assistance. 

The release highlighted that Sa'ar stated that Israeli is "ready to assist" Fiji with its plans to establish an embassy.

Sa'ar reportedly pledged to provide patrol boats after a request from Rabuka to assist in Fiji's efforts to control illegal drug trade in the country.
