Jenin resident breaches into IDF base, runs over soldier while being chased by police

The IDF confirmed that the victim was a soldier and that he was evacuated to a hospital for treatment. The IDF also clarified that the incident is not being classified as a terror attack.

A resident of Jenin was arrested after stealing a vehicle from the Tel Aviv area and wounding an IDF soldier at a checkpoint near Tzrifin military base, Israel Police announced on Tuesday morning.

The IDF confirmed that the victim was a soldier and that he was evacuated to a hospital for treatment. The IDF also clarified that the incident is not being classified as a terror attack.

The suspect, who was residing in Israel illegally, managed to move around inside the base for approximately seven minutes before being apprehended, sources familiar with the details told Israeli media outlets.

Police tracked the stolen vehicle and arrested him near Ramle.

The suspect, an illegal resident from Jenin in the West Bank, stole the vehicle in the Tel Aviv area before driving toward the military base.

Eyewitness reports 

Eyewitnesses reported that he attempted to breach a military checkpoint, injuring a man in his 20s in the process, before successfully entering the base.

Officers from the Ramle police station launched a search operation and managed to locate and arrest him. He has been taken into custody for questioning and is expected to appear in court later today for a hearing on extending his detention.
