At least 18 injured in knife attack in Hamburg, woman arrested

The woman is believed to have acted alone, and no information has been identified as to her motive.

Eighteen people were injured in a knife attack in Hamburg station on Friday evening, Germany's Bild newspaper reported, and local police confirmed they had arrested the suspected assailant.

Four victims are in critical condition and six others are seriously injured, Bild reported, saying the motive for the attack was unclear.

Hamburg police said on the social media platform X that a person was reported to have injured several people with a knife at the station, and the suspect had been arrested.

Disruptions to travel

Tracks 11 to 14 at the Hamburg Central Station are currently closed due to the attack, with delays and diversions to be expected for long-distance journeys, Deutsche Bahn, Germany's national rail operator, said on X.

"We are deeply saddened by this act of violence; our thoughts and condolences are with the injured and their families," the operator wrote.
