60 observers at the post were left without any protection, and the base gate was open and unsupervised.

For 12 hours last Thursday, the lookout post at the Urim base in the Gaza periphery was left with no guard and no security. As a result, 60 lookouts at the outpost were left unprotected, and the base’s gate was open and unsupervised, The Jerusalem Post confirmed Thursday.

In footage obtained by the N12 news site, the outpost can be seen abandoned, meaning anyone could theoretically enter without hindrance.

“Our base was completely abandoned – without a guard and without a security force other than us, who were not all armed,” one of the female lookouts told N12.

“We contacted the battalion headquarters, but for 12 hours, we received no response, during which time anyone could enter and exit freely. Finally, two reserve volunteers were sent to us – fighters who do important work but cannot sufficiently secure dozens of female lookouts and guard the entire outpost.”

During the October 7 massacre, the Nahal Oz outpost was left without security. That allowed dozens of terrorists to break in and murder or take hostage the female lookouts stationed there, N12 reported.

Lessons after October 7

“After the events of October 7, we expected lessons to be learned, especially in the Gaza border area,” the female lookout said. “How are we supposed to feel protected when security is so minimal? The feeling is that nothing has been learned; no one in the army cares about us.”

The IDF said it was carrying out a comprehensive investigation.

The Urim outpost is “located about 10 km. from the border” with Gaza and near where the massacre at the Supernova music festival took place, it said.
