A bush fire that broke out in Karmit Forest, near Ein Kerem in Jerusalem, on Monday afternoon has been declared under control, Israel Fire and Rescue Authority announced Monday afterron.

Jerusalem firefighting and rescue crews are continuing to operate in the area, with the support of teams from neighboring districts, aerial firefighting plans, and a helicopter for monitoring and observation of the fire, media reports and the authority said.

In total, 50 firefighters have been deployed to the area in an effort to contain the fire's spread, with an additional 26 teams en route as reinforcement.

Evacuations ongoing of residents, neighboring areas

Due to the intensity of the blaze, a "fire strike" has been declared, prompting the evacuation of residents of the nearby Swedish village, including a day center for people with special needs.

Emergency forces are preparing to evacuate citizens from nearby institutions, media sources reported. 

The Jerusalem Light Rail announced that train traffic has been paused and is awaiting developments. Updates will be made in accordance with the fire and security authorities.
