Iranian parliamentarians are preparing a bill that could push Tehran toward exiting the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, the foreign ministry said on Monday, while reiterating Tehran's official stance against developing nuclear weapons.

"In light of recent developments, we will take an appropriate decision. Government has to enforce parliament bills, but such a proposal is just being prepared and we will coordinate in the later stages with parliament," the ministry's spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said, when asked at a press conference about Tehran potentially leaving the NPT.

The NPT, which Iran ratified in 1970, guarantees countries the right to pursue civilian nuclear power in return for requiring them to forego atomic weapons and cooperate with the UN nuclear watchdog, the IAEA.

Iran in violation of NPT obligations, IAEA ruled

Israel began bombing Iran last week, saying Tehran was on the verge of building a nuclear bomb. Iran has always said its nuclear program is peaceful, although the IAEA declared last week that Tehran was in violation of its NPT obligations.

President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated on Monday that nuclear weapons were against a religious edict by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi on Monday told the IAEA Board of Governors that Israel had failed to destroy Iran's uranium-enriching centrifuge fleet at an underground facility at Natanz.

He acknowledged that the IDF had succeeded in destroying the above-ground Natanz nuclear sites, damaging the electrical grid that runs the underground centrifuges, and causing contamination of the underground facility.

Responding, IDF sources said that they believe Grossi is wrong.

Previously, the IDF had said that it had succeeded in striking and destroying both the above-ground and underground Natanz nuclear sites, including the crucial centrifuge fleet.

Defense Minister Israel Katz on Monday condemned Iran's overnight ballistic missile attacks on Israel, threatening Tehran residents with retaliatory actions in a post to X/Twitter on Sunday morning.

"The arrogant dictator from Tehran has become a cowardly murderer, targeting civilian areas in Israel in order to deter the IDF from continuing its attack, which is crippling his capabilities.

"The residents of Tehran will pay the price, and soon," Katz said.

In a later update, Katz stressed Israel has no intention of deliberately harming the residents of Tehran, walking back earlier comments he had made on Monday.

"I wish to clarify the obvious: there is no intention to physically harm the residents of Tehran as the murderous dictator does to the residents of Israel," Katz said in a statement. "The residents of Tehran will have to pay the price of dictatorship and evacuate their homes from areas where it will be necessary to attack regime targets and security infrastructures in Tehran."

The Israel Air Force assassinated four senior Iranian intelligence officials, including the head of the Revolutionary Guards' intelligence organization, on Sunday, the IDF announced on Monday.

Fighter jets struck senior officials in a building in Tehran, the military said.

The strike killed the head of the Revolutionary Guards' intelligence organization and his deputy, as well as the head of the Quds Force's intelligence branch and his deputy.

These senior officials played a central role in assessing the situation in Iran and planning terrorist actions against Israel, the West, and regional countries, the military claimed.

IDF Chief Spokesman Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin on Monday announced that the air force has destroyed a third of Iran's ballistic missile launchers, 120 in total.

Each launcher could have fired dozens of missiles over the course of the current war.

The Islamic Republic was only able to fire around half of the missiles it had intended to fire overnight, said Defrin.

This means that for the rest of the war, Iran's ability to launch more missiles at once, will be reduced by at least a third, if not more, given that during the overnight attack, Tehran's firing capability was reduced by around half.

Overnight, Defrin said that the air force also destroyed 20 ballistic missiles which were on their way to being fired. This means that given that Iran fired 40 ballistic missiles, it would have fired at least 60, without getting into how many missiles it lost the ability to fire, given its losses in the area of missile launchers.

Also, Defrin said that the air force launched 50 aircraft which struck around 100 targets over the course of the last day.

The IDF on Monday provided its first statistics of the war on its shoot down success against Iran's ballistic missiles, setting it at 80-90%, with only about 5-10% of ballistic missiles hitting actual residential areas.

Eight more Israeli civilians were killed in Iran's Sunday-Monday middle-of-the-night attacks, bringing the total number of deaths to 24, with one more missing person expected to be declared dead in the coming hours.

From a salvo of around 40 ballistic missiles at 4:00 a.m., raising the total number of ballistic missiles to around 350, there were hits in Tel Aviv, Petach Tikva, and Bnei Brak, leading to deaths.

To date, the Iranian missile salvos have focused on the Gush Dan/Tel Aviv/central Israel area, the Haifa area, and the Beersheba area.
