The IDF confirmed on Tuesday that IDF soldiers fired warning shots at suspects overnight who were posing a risk to soldiers in the area of Wadi Gaza, conflicting with the reports issued by Hamas-run Palestinian agencies on the same event.

The suspects were approaching an aid distribution site hours before the site was set to open, the military said.

Hamas-run health authorities reported that at least 17 Palestinians were killed and dozens wounded as the “displaced people” approached the aid site.

The IDF noted that after an initial inquiry, reports by Hamas and other local sources do not line up with the information available to the IDF. The military clarified that the details are still under review.

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) has yet to comment on the reports of the shooting near any aid site.

Looting of humanitarian aid in Gaza

Hamas and a number of Palestinian gangs have been repeatedly accused of stealing humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.

Witnesses said at least 40 trucks carrying flour for UN warehouses were looted by desperate displaced Palestinians as well as thieves near the Nabulsi roundabout along the coastal road in Gaza City.
