Iranian officials comment on Israeli strikes
The General Staff of the Armed Forces in Iran said, according to the Iranian Student News Network, "The aggressive and adventurous act of the Zionist regime on the morning of Friday, June 13, in attacking parts of the country, including civilian and military areas, resulted in the martyrdom and injury of a group of dear compatriots, including women and children, and a number of commanders of the armed forces."It also reportedly promised to retaliate for the attacks.
Spokesperson for the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Sardar Shekarch, also threatened, "The Zionist enemy and America will pay a very heavy price... Iran will give a heavy response to the Zionist regime."
Israel will pay a heavy price for its attack on Iran which killed Revolutionary Guards top commander Hossein Salami, the IRGC said in a statement on Friday, warning of a decisive retaliation against its "sworn enemies."
"The Israeli attack was carried out with full knowledge and support of the wicked rulers in the White House and terrorist US Regime," the statement said.
The regime's foreign ministry also issued a statement insisting that Iran had the right to respond to the attack in accordance with international law.
"This morning, the occupying and rogue Zionist regime, violating the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of our beloved Iran, attacked areas including several residential areas in Tehran and several other cities of our country, and killed a group of the most honorable and patriotic servants of the homeland in the field of defending the honor and authority of Iran and science and technology, along with other innocent people.," the statement read.
"The Zionist regime's attacks on Iran are a violation of Article 4, Paragraph 2, of the Charter of the United Nations and a clear aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran." it said.
"Responding to this aggression is Iran's legal and legitimate right in accordance with Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, and the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will not hesitate to defend the Iranian nation with all their might and in a manner they determine," the statement said.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran, as a founding member of the United Nations, whose philosophy of existence is to prevent aggression, breach of peace, and threats to peace, emphasizes the duty of the Security Council of this organization to take immediate action to confront the violation of international peace and security due to the Zionist regime's blatant aggression against Iran, and calls on the President and members of this Council to take action in this regard as soon as possible."
This is a developing story.
