US President Joe Biden said on Thursday he plans to designate Colombia as a major non-NATO ally, before a White House meeting with Colombian President Ivan Duque.
Biden also called for a new framework between the United States and Latin American countries to collectively manage migration, something he said he hoped to sign in June at the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles.
Joe Biden also designated Qatar as a major non-NATO ally of the United States, fulfilling the promise that he had made to Qatar earlier this year, the White House said.
Biden promised Qatar's emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, in January during a meeting at the White House that he would grant Qatar the special status
The designation is granted by the United States to close, non-NATO allies that have strategic working relationships with the US military.
