New combined coronavirus variant detected in Israel

A new variant which combines the BA.1 and BA.2 subvariants of SARS-CoV-2 has been detected in two patients in Israel, according to the Health Ministry. The variant has never been reported in any other country.

"We don't know what the meaning of this is," said Health Ministry director-general Nachman Ash to 103FM. "It is almost certain that their infection took place before their flight to Israel, it could be that this variant was formed here."
