Police, Border Police up their presence throughout Jerusalem

The increased police presence is a direct response to the recent uptick in terror attacks in Jerusalem.

There was an increased presence of deployed, active Jerusalem district police officers as well as Border Police officers throughout Jerusalem and particularly in east Jerusalem on Sunday evening according to a statement from the Israel Police Spokesperson's Unit. 

The increased police presence is a direct response to the recent uptick in terror attacks in Jerusalem; specifically, the two most recent attacks which took place within 24 hours of each other on Friday and Saturday. 

The forces are working to disperse potential rioters and those already becoming violent in various locations throughout Jerusalem. 

On Sunday evening, a disturbance began in the Jebl Mukaber neighborhood in Jerusalem in which dozens of masked people, threw stones and shot firecrackers at the forces operating there, according to the Police Spokesperson's Unit.

Border Police forces responded with riot dispersal measures and one Border Police officer who felt particularly endangered fired a warning shot into the air. There are no known injuries at the scene.

In the area of the Beit Hanina intersection, a disturbance developed in which a number of masked individuals set garbage cans on fire and threw stones at the police officers, who used riot dispersal methods to combat the unrest. Police officers and Border Police forces arrested 6 suspects on suspicion of involvement in the riots at the Beit Hanina intersection.

Five held for questioning earlier on Sunday

The Shin Bet and the police on Sunday afternoon announced that out of the dozens of Palestinians arrested in connection with the terror attack in Neve Yaakov on Friday, five Palestinians are being held and questioned for a more extended period, at minimum until the middle of this coming week.

Among the five are two family members of the terrorist as well as three non-family members, including one Palestinian who was only arrested on Sunday.

Regarding the 13-year-old terrorist killer, his detention has been extended until at least the end of this week, pending an overwhelmingly likely indictment and three of his family members have been arrested and their detentions are expected to be extended later on Sunday.

The IDF, Shin Bet and Border Police arrested three Palestinians suspected of terrorism in the West Bank on Saturday night, according to the IDF Spokesperson's Unit.

One of the suspects was found in possession of a gun which was confiscated, and the suspects were taken in for further investigation.

No soldiers were harmed in the arrests.

Man arrested for alleged support of terrorism

Israel Police reported that it had arrested another man on Saturday after he allegedly made social media posts that alerted police and raised suspicions that he supported terrorism.

The suspect was taken in for questioning, and the police will decide on Sunday whether to request for his arrest to be extended.

"Israel Police will continue to act with the other security forces both openly and covertly and online against those who incite, support and identify with terrorists or terrorist organizations," said the police in a statement.
