US President Biden 'keeping fingers crossed' on Gaza hostage deal

United States President Joe Biden was cautious about responding to news that the deal to release at least 50 Gaza hostages would go into effect Friday at 4 p.m., one day later than planned.

“I’m not prepared to give an update until it’s done,” he told reporters who asked him about it on Thursday, as he visited Nantucket for the Thanksgiving holiday.

It is expected that three US citizens will be among those released, including a three-year-old whose parents were killed in the October Hamas 7 infiltration into southern Israel. She is among more than 239 captives seized on that day.

When asked if she would be among those freed, Biden said, “I’m keeping my fingers crossed.”
