The four soldiers who were killed in fighting in the southern Gaza Strip on Tuesday were St.-Sgt. Agam Naim, 20; St.-Sgt. Dotan Shimon, 21; St.-Sgt. Amit Bakri, 21; and Capt. Daniel Mimon Toaff, 23, the IDF announced Wednesday morning.

Naim served as a paramedic in the 52nd Battalion and was the first female soldier to die in combat in Gaza since the Israel-Hamas War began on October 7. Shimon, Bakri, and Toaff served in the Givati Brigade’s Shaked Battalion, the IDF said.

In the same incident in which the four soldiers were killed, an officer and two other soldiers were severely wounded, and two soldiers were moderately wounded, the IDF said.

Since the Israel-Hamas War began, 713 soldiers have been killed, including 346 since the start of military ground operations on October 27, the IDF said.

“A very sad morning,” President Isaac Herzog wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday. “Four flowers – a heroic paramedic and three brave fighters – have fallen, and their comrades were injured yesterday in the fierce battles in the Gaza Strip. I embrace their families and loved ones. May the memory of Naim, Bakri, Toaff, and Shimon be blessed and forever held in our hearts.”
