Two Hassidic men were assaulted in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn on Saturday as they were exiting a synagogue.
The attacker was unprovoked and attempted to stab one man in the neck and pushed the other to the ground, wounding the two.
The assailant also made threats to passersby before being stopped by Crown Heights Shmira public safety volunteers and was taken into custody by police.
The attack occurred near Union Street and Albany Avenue.
Hatzallah, a local medical emergency response group, then treated the victims.
Chabad responds
"The attack, which occurred in the heart of the Lubavitch community, took place precisely on Yud Shvat, the anniversary of the Previous Rebbe’s passing and the beginning of the Rebbe’s leadership," Chabad said in its statement.
They added that this day symbolizes "strength and continuity," and this "act of hatred only reinforces the determination to respond with even more light."
