Javier Milei delays Israel visit due to domestic issues, new date unclear

Milei's support for Israel has not wavered, and will travel to Israel as at least one Argentine citizen, Eitan Horn, remains in captivity.

Argentina's President Javier Milei's visit scheduled for next week was postponed due to "internal occurrences in Argentina."

Milei was due to meet with senior officials as well as speak in the Knesset.

Last week, protesters attributed to the country's far-left caused a violent uprising in the country, Argentine media sources reported.

Milei threatened jail time for those who provoked street riots, which followed on from a Wednesday protest by pensioners. The day ended in police clashes with 124 people arrested and 45 injured.

"The good ones are the ones in blue [the police] and the sons of bitches who go around with rags on their faces and break cars, burn cars and threaten people,” said Milei during a speech at the Expoagro agricultural event in Buenos Aires Province, Argentine media reported.

Amid turmoil in his home country, Milei postponed his visit to Israel with no clear date to depart.

Javier Milei: Friend to Israel

Following the return of the bodies of dual Argentine-Israeli citizens, Shiri, Ariel, and Kfir Bibas, who were murdered in Hamas captivity, Milei announced multiple national days of mourning.

The Argentine president has a strong history of supporting Israel.

He has strongly condemned the October 7 attack, and has visited Israel several times since the start of the Israel-Hamas war.

“Silence is complicity, and it compels us to condemn the brutal and cowardly terrorist attack of October 7,” he wrote in a December 2024 letter.
