Tank driver St.-Sgt.-Maj. (res.) Asaf Cafri killed in combat in northern Gaza

Two additional soldiers were severely injured as well.

An IDF tank driver from the 79th Battalion in the 14th ‘Machatz’ Brigade, was killed in combat in northern Gaza, the IDF announced Thursday.

The soldier was identified on Friday morning as St.-Sgt.-Maj. (res.) Asaf Cafri, from Beit Hashmonai, who died at 26 years old.

Additionally, an officer in the Yahalom Unit and a reservist in the ‘Machatz’ Brigade were severely wounded in the incident.

The soldiers were evacuated to a hospital to receive medical treatment, and their families have been notified.

IDF death toll since the October 7 massacre

According to the IDF’s tally, this death raises the total of soldiers killed since October 7 of last year to 849.  

Some 408 of this number were killed since the start of the IDF’s ground offensive in the Gaza Strip on October 27 of that year.

There are currently 58,617 bereaved families living in Israel, according to data from the Ministry of Defense, Kan News reported on Friday.
