IDF: 100 UN aid trucks transferred to Gaza through Kerem Shalom

The UN reported that none of its supplies had been able to leave the loading area as it was 'insecure,' at risk of looting.

100 trucks carrying humanitarian aid from the UN and the international community, including flour, baby food, and medical equipment, were transferred on Wednesday through the Kerem Shalom Crossing into Gaza, the military said.

All aid was transferred only after a thorough security inspection by personnel from the Defense Ministry's Crossing Points Authority, the IDF noted.

The IDF stated that it would continue to facilitate humanitarian assistance in the Gaza Strip while making every effort to ensure that the aid does not reach the hands of Hamas.

UN unable to unload aid in 'insecure' area

This comes after the United Nations reported earlier on Wednesday that no humanitarian aid had yet been distributed in the Gaza Strip, two days after Israel lifted an 11-week blockade and began allowing limited deliveries into the enclave through the Kerem Shalom crossing.

"So far ... none of the supplies have been able to leave the Kerem Shalom loading area," said UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, adding that it was because Israeli authorities had only allowed access within Gaza "that we felt was insecure" and where looting was likely due to the prolonged deprivation.
