Shinzo Abe to become first Japanese official to visit Pearl Harbor

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe declared his intention to visit Pearl Harbor in a televised press release that took place earlier on Monday.
According to the New York Times, he will be joined on his trip to the naval base by US president Barack Obama, who made a symbolic visit of his own to the Japanese city of Hiroshima last year. Hiroshima was attacked by an American atomic bomb toward the end of the war with Japan in 1945.
By declaring his intention to visit a site that triggered the US@@@s involvement in World War II,  Abe appears to be displaying a diplomatic gesture of goodwill and respect. “I want to express that determination as we look to the future, and at the same time send a message about the value of US-Japanese reconciliation," the New York Times quoted him as saying.
