In anticipation of another wave of coronavirus, the Defense Ministry Engineering and Construction Department has begun to establish four intensive-care units for coronavirus patients in The Rabin Medical Center-Beilinson Campus parking lot in Petah Tikva.
The facility will occupy two floors of the 5,000-square-foot underground parking lot. It will become a hospital in six weeks, with 206 beds for intensive care, and will have advanced medical equipment.
“The infrastructure set up by the Defense Ministry will also enable the hospital to open quickly in the future in a protected space for any other emergency,” the ministry said in a press release.
The estimated cost of the project is about NIS 30 million, it said.
The facility will enable the hospital to care for patients sick with the coronavirus and for patients who are not infected but who require its advanced medical services.
The Beilinson Campus is one of the largest hospitals in the country and has many leading physicians. For the past two months, it has been at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19.
