Iran attempted to promote a resolution in recent days condemning Israel’s attack at the upcoming meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) Board of Governors, which is scheduled for Monday in Vienna, according to a Western diplomat who spoke to The Jerusalem Post.

According to assessments, after realizing they would not secure a majority, Iranian officials shifted their efforts toward promoting a general statement that would include condemnation of the Israeli strikes on Iran.

Iran initially requested the meeting as early as Friday, just hours after the Israeli operation began, and received backing from several countries. “Iran’s only purpose in requesting the meeting was to secure a formal condemnation of Israel,” said the source.

Monday's meeting marks the first time the IAEA Board of Governors will convene since the Israeli attack began.

IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi is expected to brief the representatives on the known outcomes of the Israeli strike. He will also reiterate that he and IAEA inspectors are prepared to take action when feasible, in order to ensure that no radiological accident occurs.

IAEA chief says Natanz nuclear site destroyed by Israel

The above-ground pilot enrichment plant at Iran's Natanz nuclear site has been destroyed, the UN nuclear watchdog chief told the Security Council on Friday.

"At present, the Iranian authorities are informing us of attacks on two other facilities, namely the Fordow fuel enrichment plant and Isfahan," Grossi told the 15-member council.

"At this moment, we do not have enough information beyond indicating that military activity has taken place around these facilities as well."

This is a developing story.
