Police were dispatched to the suspected source of the smell.

Following this discovery, fire brigade and crime scene investigation teams were called to the location, according to Milliyet. Despite thorough examinations, the exact source of the bad smell that led to the initial complaint could not be determined.
The homeowner, T.D., was taken into custody for questioning regarding the unauthorized excavation and the tunnel's construction.
Local resident Necdet Gül expressed concerns about the situation. "While sitting in the open area of the tea house in the garden, a bad smell has surrounded us for three to four days," said Gül, according to Yeni Akit. "We got suspicious from this smell."
