Eldad Beck, an Israeli-Austrian journalist and author, is one of the rare Israeli journalists who reported from Arab and Muslim countries – such as Iran, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and Afghanistan – on major events in the Middle East. Due to his long experience covering Europe, he is considered one of the top experts on European issues in the Israeli press.
Born in Haifa in 1965, Eldad studied Arabic and Islam at the Sorbonne in Paris.
In 2009, Beck published in Israel his first book about his experiences in Arab and Muslim countries under the title Beyond the Border - Travels and Encounters in Forbidden Countries. In 2014. he published Germany, at Odds, a personal journey in modern Germany, checking myths, perceptions, and realities of a country shaping Europe again. His third book, The Chancellor - Merkel, Israel and the Jews, was published in March 2017. His fourth book, Alternative - New Right for Germany, was published in summer 2022. Beck published his fifth book, Late Reconciliation: The History of the Troubled Relations between Austria and Israel, in September 2024.
Among the world leaders that Beck interviewed are: German chancellor Angela Merkel, Austrian chancellors Sebastian Kurz and Alexander Schallenberg, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Polish President Andrzej Duda, Czech President Milos Zeman, President and Prime Minister of Kosovo Hashim Thaci, President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik, and Dutch leader Geert Wilders.
In 2015, Beck received the "Ambassadors Online Award" from University of Haifa as an acknowledgment of his journalistic contribution to explaining Europe to Israelis and Israel to Europeans.
