Maj. Guy Yaacov Nezri succumbed to his wounds from fighting in the Gaza Strip, the IDF announced on Monday.
Maj. Nezri, 25, from Atlit, was a company commander in the 52nd Battalion in the 401st Brigade. He was wounded in the northern Gaza Strip on October 19.
In a widely shared video on Facebook, Nezri can be seen talking with students at a high school in Haifa, "It is good to live for our country, it is good to live for our country—and I am not here to die. We love life, we fight for life, and we are here to stay. Our people are strong, a people that has survived harsh wars and borne heavy losses, and always rises on its feet, with heads held high."
'Child of love'
His sister, Tamar, in a post published before Nezri's death, said, "Guy fought for a year for a better life in our country; that was his goal, and that's where we're heading."
A loved one remembered him in a post on Facebook as "a handsome boy with a captivating smile, a child full of love."
Another post made before his death recalled how Nezri was " a commander who knows how to lead his soldiers and understand their hearts."
