Opposition leader MK Yair Lapid is set to travel to Washington next week to present his “day after” plan for the Gaza Strip, he said on Tuesday.
“The government has no plan for the future,” he told Army Radio. “My role is to present that there is an alternative to managing the country, in a better way.”
Separately, the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies (FDD) announced that it would be hosting the event with Lapid titled “The Day After: Yair Lapid’s Vision for a Peaceful Middle East.”
FDD says Lapid will deliver “a new proposal for the future of Gaza as part of his strategic vision for a peaceful and prosperous Israel and Middle East.” He will be joined in conversation by the foundation’s chief executive Mark Dubowitz.
In the event summary, the FDD writes that “Israel’s military successes present Jerusalem a window of opportunity” and says the meeting will involve discussion on how Israel can turn its military successes into strategic victories.
The event will take place in Washington on February 25 and will be live-streamed on the foundation’s website.
Lapid on Trump's plan
This comes after Lapid told the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation on February 5 that he would study US President Donald Trump’s plans to take over Gaza and would present a complementary plan about it to the Americans during his trip to Washington.
“The role of the Israeli leadership is to present plans, not just wait for the Americans,” he said at the time.
