Court releases Urich in 'Qatargate' case to house arrest

Yonatan Urich, one of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s senior aides, was released on Monday by a judge at the Rishon Lezion Magistrate’s Court to house arrest under restrictions after police decided not to ask to extend his remand.

Urich was held by police and questioned for a week.

He is one of the main suspects in the “Qatargate” affair – an investigation into suspected Qatari influence on figures close to the prime minister, involving the Gulf state’s alleged efforts to improve its image among the Israeli public.

Eli Feldstein, a former Netanyahu spokesperson and the second main suspect who was questioned at the same time as Urich, was released to house arrest on Friday.
