Israel Aloni, 73, was named as the victim killed in the Iranian missile attack in Rishon Lezion on Saturday, Israeli media reported.

He is the first victim to be named among the three who were reported killed by the barrage of missiles from Iran.

He was in the basement of his home, but not in the safe room at the time of the strike. His son, Eran, told KAN that he was alone at home when he was struck. He described his father as someone who was always willing to help others.

Last time the two spoke was the day before

He said that the last time he and his father spoke was on Friday.

He was hit with shrapnel in three parts of his body, and died of his wounds, Eran told KAN.

"My father could have been with us if he had entered the protected space," Eran added.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with the mayors of Rishon Lezion, Tel Aviv, and Ramat Gan, his office said Saturday, expressed his condolences over the three fatalities, and asked to relay his message to the families.

He praised the resilience of the residents of the cities and of all Israeli citizens, and told the mayors that the government would provide all necessary assistance for recovery and support.
