A Palestinian terrorist stabbed Israeli Elyashiv Nahum, 29, near the West Bank outpost of Havat Yehuda, where he lives. Nahum suffered moderate injuries and was transferred to the Soroka-University Medical Center in Beersheba for further medical attention by Magen David Adom.
The Palestinian terrorist was then shot and killed.
Reports were mixed about who shot the Palestinian, whether it was Nahum himself, who managed to stay composed, or a visiting electrician who happened to be on the scene.
Nahum was bleeding from his upper body in multiple spots. He is in stable condition.
The Palestinian stabber has been identified by Palestinian media as Sanad Muhammad Samamra, 18, from the nearby Palestinian town of Dhahiriya, only a few kilometers away. Elyashiv’s wife, Roni, told Ynet that “he was at the entrance to our home. Elyashiv called out to him, ‘Who is it?’ He responded, ‘I only came to drink water.’ Then he pulled his knife.”
Roni’s father is Noam Arnon, Ynet added, a spokesman for Hebron. “Their farm has long been suffering from assaults by Arabs. Today it took a turn for the worst – a terror attack. It could have been so much worse, we are praying for his recovery.”
Ben-Gvir celebrates civilian hero
National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir (Otzma Yehudit) praised the shooting of the terrorist, while various local officials complained that there are regular incidents like this that the media does not report and that security must improve.
At the end of December, there was a terror attack near Kfar Qasim and there have been waves of terror rising and falling against Israel since March 2022, with the IDF and the Shin Bet saying that in recent months they see a steady decline, though not an end to the situation.
According to the IDF, the decline is due to nightly raids in Palestinian parts of the West Bank to arrest terrorists, sometimes in multiple locations simultaneously.
