Warr. Ofc (res.) Mordechai Yosef Ben Shoam was killed in battle while fighting in the Gaza Strip, the IDF announced on Saturday.
Warr. Ofc. Ben Shoam, 34, from Geva Binyamin, served in Battalion 8119 in the Jerusalem Brigade.
Ben Shoam fell in the central Gaza Strip.
Ben Shoam was married to Natali and was a father to a nine-month-old daughter.
The Mateh Binyamin Regional Council, where Ben Shoam lived, paid tribute to him: "He enlisted in the reserves on Simchat Torah and served for many months.
The council added that in the past five years Ben Shoam worked as a driver in the Mateh Binyamin Development Company. Ben Shoam "was one of the company's most dedicated employees. He drove children with disabilities, respected them and liked them so much that he was invited to the birthday celebrations of the children he drove."
Head of the council, Israel Gantz, said of Ben Shoam, "We lost a great man who was devoted to his family and to everyone who was close to him. He was one of the most dedicated employees of the Development Company. In the last year, Mordechai was devoted to the people of Israel in a very long reserve service for the defense of the homeland that he loved so much."
Fallen soldiers since beginning of war
According to the IDF's tally, the death of Warr. Ofc Ben Shoam raises the total of soldiers killed on or since October 7 of last year to 691.
Some 331 of this number were killed since the start of the military's ground operations in the Strip on October 27.
