Defense Minister Israel Katz appointed Maj.-Gen. Tamir Yadai as deputy to the incoming chief of staff, Eyal Zamir, the ministry said on Friday.

“Maj.-Gen. Yadai is a veteran and esteemed officer who has successfully held key positions throughout his many years in the IDF,” the statement read.

Katz said he was “convinced of Yadai’s ability to make a significant contribution to strengthening the IDF, in building its force and its offensive capabilities in the face of security challenges.”

Key positions Yadai has held include commander of the IDF’s Ground Forces Command, the Central Command, the Home Front Command, the Judea and Samaria Division, and the Golani Brigade.

Gov't committee approves Zamir's appointment

In September, Yadai resigned from his position as head of the IDF’s Ground Forces Command, citing personal reasons.

Opposition leader MK Yair Lapid congratulated Yadai, writing on X/Twitter that “his success is our success.”

Earlier last week, the government vetting committee announced the appointment of Defense Ministry Director-General Maj.-Gen. (res.) Eyal Zamir to replace outgoing IDF chief of staff Lt.-Gen. Herzi Halevi.
