A senior Iranian official warned CNN on Saturday that Tehran plans to target the regional bases of any country that defends Israel.

“Iran reserves the right – under international law – to respond decisively to this regime,” the official said. “Any country that attempts to defend the regime against Iran’s operations will, in turn, see its regional bases and positions become new targets,” the official said.

Iran accused the United States of being complicit in Israel's attacks on the Islamic Republic, which Washington denied, telling Tehran at the United Nations Security Council that it would "be wise" to negotiate over its nuclear program.

Shortly after Tehran's accusations against Washington, the United States embassy in Baghdad was forced to evacuate as sirens sounded, according to Iranian semi-state official Mehr News Agency.

Iran will immediately hit Israel's economic and energy infrastructure if its own vital facilities are hit in future attacks, a Revolutionary Guards source told Iran's Fars news agency on Friday.

Iran's state news agency IRNA said Tehran launched hundreds of ballistic missiles at Israel after Israel blasted Iran's huge Natanz underground nuclear site and killed its top military commanders. Israel's military said Iran fired fewer than 100 missiles and most were intercepted or fell short.

Calls for restraint from Iran in the face of Israel's attack are unjustified, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi told his British counterpart David Lammy in a phone call on Friday.

New threats against Israel

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei accused Israel of having initiated a war. A senior Iranian official said nowhere in Israel would be safe and revenge would be painful.

Major General Mohammad Pakpour, swiftly promoted to replace Salami as Guards commander, vowed retaliation in a letter to the Supreme Leader read on state television: "The gates of hell will open to the child-killing regime."

This is a developing story.
