Five people were killed and one person was moderately injured in a shooting incident in the northern town of Basmat Tabun.

"We saw the man lying unconscious with no pulse and no breathing and suffering from penetrating injuries to his body," said medic Yishai Levy.

In a separate operation in the village, the police removed 31 security cameras set up by a criminal organization.

Hadash-Ta’al MK Ayman Odeh said violence in the Arab sector was a product of Israeli racism.

By September 1, some 165 Israeli Arabs had been murdered since the start of the year. The violence is clearly out of control. But why? And what can and should be done?

The meeting came as Arab leaders are dealing with record numbers of murders within the sector. So far in 2023, more than 170 Arabs were killed.

Since the year began police have confiscated 1,233 pistols, 218 rifles, 493 improvised weapons, 54 shotguns, 453 different types of grenades, 231 explosive charges, and 166,176 rounds of ammunition.

Mansour Abbas, head of the Ra'am Party, offered to help fight Arab sector crime, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ignored his request, as crime rates continue to skyrocket.

The absence of a personal security feeling also affects people's actions in public spaces and even on roads.

The Arab sector held a general strike across the country on Tuesday in response to rising crime rates.
