The film has already won numerous awards worldwide, and it was nominated for Best Documentary Feature Film at this year’s Oscars, which took place on Sunday night.
The awards ceremony also generated the first known public photos of Brody and actor Adrien Brody together.
The awards were announced Monday by the Association of Jewish Libraries at the American Library Association’s LibLearnX conference in Phoenix.
Allison Josephs described the event as an “evening of elevating Jewish values,” and noted that Jews of all backgrounds, “from Hollywood to Hassidim,” were being honored and in attendance.
In a year of rising antisemitism and anti-Israeli sentiment, the two big winners of the night, The Brutalist and Emilia Perez, both featured Jewish and Israeli characters and themes.
Biden is awarding the medal to 20 people in total, including former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, and Bobby Sager, a Jewish photographer and philanthropist.
