Heavily armed soldiers and armored vehicles were seen gathering in the capital's central Plaza Murillo, according to videos shared on social media.
Bolivia in 2009 cut diplomatic ties with Israel in protest of its attacks on the Gaza Strip. In 2020, the government of President Jeanine Anez reestablished ties.
"We maintain that improving the bilateral defense relations will lead to increasing the Bolivian government's deterrence power," Ashtiani was quoted by the official news agency IRNA as saying.
