The Democratic Party, once a reliable supporter of Israel and Jewish causes, is changing; Schumer has let it happen.
In a wide-ranging NYT interview, Chuck Schumer discussed rising antisemitism, Israel’s war in Gaza, the 2024 election, and the future of the Democratic Party.
"Schumer is a Palestinian as far as I'm concerned. He's become a Palestinian," Trump said during his meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin.
Trump appeared to insult both the Palestinian people and the US Senate Minority Leader, a New York Jew, in his post on Truth Social on Thursday.
Senate Democrats reelected Schumer as their leader, after a tough election for the party, which lost control of the White House and the Senate and failed to regain the US House of Representatives.
In this past year, antisemitism has skyrocketed on the streets and at schools, yet little legislation has been passed to combat it. Certainly, none has come out of Washington.
Parents held signs saying, “Children say stop the genocide in Gaza,” while their young children colored in anti-Zionist, Gaza-themed coloring books.
Schumer, as the highest-ranking Jewish member of Congress, said he never wants his grandkids to face discrimination because of who they are.
Antisemitism in America: A Warning is scheduled for publication in February and will be based on Schumer’s experiences growing up in Brooklyn in the 1960s.
Prominent Democrats said the idea that Jews were not welcome in their ranks was absurd, given how many Jews hold senior roles in the party.
