The new Western Galilee plant, to be named Birkat Miriam, is Israel's seventh desalination facility. Like the others, it will convert seawater into freshwater.
Mekorot provides Israel with over 80% of its drinking water and 70% of its water supplies. Israel doesn't have a water shortage, but a surplus.
