A meeting of the security cabinet late on Thursday approved immediate steps to increase humanitarian aid to the civilian population in the Gaza Strip.
The suspects managed to enter 500 meters into the Gaza Strip before being returned to Israeli soil, according to Israeli media.
The continued opening of the crossing will be subject to situation assessments • Palestinian official: move came at the request of mediators, to de-escalate tensions
This comes after a recent string of violent attacks and riots both inside sovereign Israel and at border crossings and checkpoints in the West Bank and Gaza.
Amid the riots, Palestinian terrorists reportedly launched incendiary and explosive balloons from Gaza toward Israel.
It was also decided on Tuesday morning that the Erez crossing at the Israel-Gaza Strip border would remain closed to Gazans throughout Tuesday.
During the riots, explosives were thrown at an IDF jeep, with soldiers responding with live fire.
Security guards and a K9 Unit at the Erez Crossing were responsible for catching the smuggling attempt.
