J. D. Vance is a Republican senator from the US state of Ohio. A longtime critic of former US president Donald Trump, he became one of Trump's defenders as his political career began, entering the Senate in 2023 after being elected in 2022. He has since been appointed Trump's running mate and vice presidential pick for the 2024 US presidential elections.
Vance is also the author of a bestselling memoir, Hillbilly Elegy.
