"The one thing that President Trump has done, he started a discussion that was long overdue," US Senator Lindsey Graham said, saying that Arab states had "woken up" to find a better alternative.
“The number one priority of the US government—Democrat and Republican—is to get the hostages out," Graham said.
"I want people in Israel and in the region to know that Trump is focused on the hostages issue. He wants the killing to stop and the fighting to end."
Many Republican senators, including Graham, have already been outspoke about their support for such a move.
Trump was joined by at least one US Republican Senator on his call with Netanyahu.
