Russia ready to present peace terms to Ukraine after two sides enact prisoner swap

Russia will be ready to hand Ukraine a draft document outlining conditions for a long-term peace agreement once the current prisoner exchange is completed, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday.

Russia and Ukraine each released 270 prisoners of war and another 120 civilians on Friday, the Russian defence ministry said, confirming the largest such exchange in the more than three-year-old war yet.

The exchange is the first step in a 1,000 people for 1,000 people swap, which Russia said was its initiative and which was agreed at direct talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul on May 16.

The ministry said that other parts of the same swap would unfold in the coming days and that Ukraine had handed over civilians, which the Ukrainian military had captured in Russia's Kursk region during a long incursion there
