A Syrian civilian woman was killed by an Iranian drone that was shot down and fell on a house in the Tartus Governorate in the western part of the country, according to a Sunday report from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The UK-based information office described her death as the "first Syrian casualty of the Iranian-Israeli war."

The woman initially sustained serious wounds from the incident and later died of her injuries, SOHR report said. The house had also caught fire, with smoke rising in the area.

The report comes a few days after the Syrian General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announced the reopening of Syrian airspace after closing it due to the exchange of strikes between Israel and Iran.

Operations in Syria before Iranian strikes in region

Before the exchange of airstrikes between the two countries, IDF soldiers from the Alexandroni Brigade under the 210th Division completed an overnight operation targeting Hamas terrorists in the Beit Jinn area of Syria last week.

The operation was based on intelligence that was gathered in the past few weeks.

The terrorists had been attempting to advance terror operations against Israeli civilians and soldiers in Syria.
